The Center for American Studies would like to invite you to participate in the “International Intellectual Property Law Made Easy!” course with a U.S. Attorney, M. Afshar (alumna of Berkeley Law School).
The course will present the workings of major international agreements governing the exchange and protection of intellectual property on the international market.
We will focus on the major conventions and treaties (Berne, Paris, Madrid, TRIPs, and EU harmonization) impacting both domestic regulation and international exchange of IP.
We will also cover some aspects of comparative law (e.g. droit moral).
The course takes place on February 14 and February 15, 2025 (Friday and Saturday) on Zoom.
Professor Afshar will be connecting with us in real-time from the United States through Zoom.
Hours are provided in Rome/Berlin/Prague/Paris/Warsaw time (CET).
You will understand the most important regulations on IP law at the international level.
You will know how to anticipate client needs for IP protection under various legal regimes.
You will learn how to use IP concepts when drafting contracts.
You will master the real-life IP terminology used in English.
Professor Mimi Afshar is the Director of the NCCU Intellectual Property (IP) Clinic, and the supervising patent and trademark attorney for the IP Clinic. Prof. Afshar has 18 years of combined private-practice and outside counsel experience, including experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
Prof. Afshar possesses expertise in the areas of intellectual property, patents, trademarks, information privacy and licensing. Professor Afshar has represented major technology & pharmaceutical clients. She has also provided patent counseling and prosecution expertise to independent inventors.
Prof. Afshar received her B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. She graduated in law summa cum laude from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego (California) and received an LL.M. in Law and Technology from the University of California at Berkeley Law School.
Prof. Afshar is a Registered U.S. Patent Attorney and is admitted to the USPTO Patent Bar. She is also admitted to the California State Bar, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the United States District Court-Southern District of California.
Participants will receive a set of materials that can be used as a useful resource after the course.
All of our courses are certified.
Upon the completion of the course, you will be awarded an official digital certificate signed by the CFAS President. You may then print the certificate at home, use it to apply for various academic positions, or simply post it to your LinkedIn or other professional channels.
The certificate shows the number of hours so you may use it to satisfy your Continuing Legal Education requirement set by your Bar Association.
